David Lost 40kgs to Live Again
Share
Hey, I’m David and this is how I lost 40kgs for my wedding.
I was topping the scales at 130kg, and it was climbing.
I had tried several ways to drop the weight before. I tried fasting, being vegetarian, being vegan, diet meals, and even exercising like crazy. But they never stuck, and I kept being faced with the same problem… my poor food choices.
To put it simply, I had no self-control.
I would eat uncontrolled at birthdays, anniversaries, work milestones, when I was happy, or when I was sad. It was a never-ending cycle. KFC, McDonalds, Hungry Jacks, you name it I wanted to get my hands on it. I always wanted to lose weight but never wanted to diet.
Then I hit a point and I wanted to make a change. I wanted to LIVE and not just SURVIVE. Like the material of my 4XL shirts, I had hit my breaking point. No longer did I want to resort to elastic-waisted shorts to feel comfortable.
At first, I wasn’t sure where to start. Most of my family and friends didn’t have weight problems and, as I mentioned, I have tried so many different ways to lose the weight.
I experimented with different kinds of protein shakes and meal replacement shakes. I found Man Shake Variety Pack at Coles and thought I'd give it a shot.
When I started, I was having two shakes a day, one for breakfast and the other for lunch, with whatever I wanted for dinner. That is where I hit my first hurdle. Once I placed the “whatever” title on it I set myself up for failure. I went absolutely crazy and took it for granted. I would tell my family and friends that it was ok for me to go hard for dinners because this diet plan says it was all good.
I was new and had no clue.
What I needed to realise is that everyone is different and that I need to keep searching for what works for me. Kept searching The Man Shake related information on the internet and that’s when I found an awesome Facebook group, The Man Shakers.
Scrolling through and reading other people's journeys got me inspired. I started counting calories using My Fitness Pal. The most difficult thing was to say no to certain foods when celebrating with friends and family especially if it's more than once a week.
So I had set myself a goal – I wanted to be under 100kgs and fit into a tuxedo for my wedding.
And I did it! I smashed it in fact. I was able to pass the hundred and went down to 90kgs and I made that tux look incredible.
I must thank my wife. She is my biggest supporter and couldn't have achieved anything without her by my side.
My daily routine was nice and straightforward. Shake for breakfast and lunch (usually Strawberry, Caramel, Banana, and Choc Mint) with snacks like boiled eggs, tuna, or yogurt.
Being a bigger guy I would struggle to pull up my own body weight, even the idea of a chin-up seemed impossible. With dropping the kilos and building up my strength with fitness I’ve been able to cross that achievement off my list as well.
When I started this journey, I had no idea and was lost.
To anyone starting out, here is my advice:
Everyone wants to lose weight and look great, you can to. Try out a variety pack and give it a go. Make sure to start slow and work your way up. Consistency always beats hard work. Be open about it, don't make it seem like a burden. Investing in your health and well-being is always a win.
