Recently, we put together a blog that helped you pick the best meat for your dietary needs based on the protein, iron, and fat content, along with the price. However, just because you may know which meant you want, doesn’t necessarily mean you know how to cook it. Knowing this, we’ve put together this little guide to help you properly cook your chosen protein!

How To Cook A Steak Properly

What You’ll Need

  • A piece of steak (duh)
  • Olive oil
  • A frying pan
  • Paper towels

Method

  1. Pat your steak dry with a paper towel to eliminate any moisture.
  2. Sprinkle salt and pepper on both sides of the steak.
  3. Heat your pan over a medium-high heat until it’s very hot.
  4. Pour some olive oil on the pan, when oil begins to shimmer, it’s hot enough to start cooking.
  5. Set the steak down and make sure you create enough space between yourself and the pan to avoid the splattering oil.
  6. Let the steak sit undisturbed for about 3 minutes.
  7. After three minutes, flip the steak and then let it cook on the other side for 3-4 minutes for a perfect medium-rare steak.

How To Cook A Chicken Breast Properly

What You’ll Need

  • A thick and boneless piece of chicken breast
  • Olive oil
  • A large skillet
  • A chopping board

Method

  1. Add cooking oil to your skillet and heat it over a medium-low heat.
  2. Once the skillet is hot, swirl the oil around and ensure it coats the surface.
  3. Add the chicken to the skillet and cook it for about 8 minutes without flipping it.
  4. After 8 minutes, flip the chicken onto the second side and cook until it is well browned and cooked through.
  5. Once the cooking is over, move the chicken to a clean cutting board and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.

How To Cook Pork Tenderloin Properly

What You’ll Need

  • A pork tenderloin with no skin
  • Salt and pepper
  • Olive oil
  • An oven-safe skillet
  • An oven
  • Paper towel

Method

  1. Remove any leftover fat or skin on the outside of the meat (usually white or silver in colour).
  2. Pat the tenderloin dry with your paper towel.
  3. Season your tenderloin with salt.
  4. Before you put the tenderloin in the skillet, pre-heat your oven to about 220 degrees Celsius.
  5. Add your pork and oil to an oven-safe skillet over medium heat and cook it on each side for a few minutes until the meat’s surface is golden brown (it won’t be cooked inside yet).
  6. Garnish the pork with a little bit of pepper.
  7. Chuck it in the oven for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  8. Once it’s been cooking for 15 to 20 minutes, it should still be a little pink inside. You can cook it for a little longer if you want, but it will be a little less juicy in the middle.

How to Cook Kangaroo Steak Properly

What You’ll Need

  • A kangaroo steak
  • A flying pan
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • Foil

Method

  1. Heat your frying pan to a medium-high heat.
  2. Add your kangaroo steak to your pan and cook for 4 to 5 minutes on each side for a medium-rare finish. You can obviously cook it longer if you wish, but we’ve heard that overcooked kangaroo is pretty nasty, so be careful.
  3. Rest the cooked meat for 10 minutes under foil before serving.
