Foods That Increase Focus

Ever been stuck at work or a family event and struggled to remember anything being said to you?

It’s a fact of life that sometimes we’ll struggle to focus. That said, there are foods you can eat that should help stop your mind from wandering and staying on the task at hand.

Like the foods that can boost your mood, it’s super important to keep plenty of these 'focus-friendly' foods stocked in your pantry so you can get through the day firing on all cylinders. Let’s check them out.

Fatty Fish

Sure, it might not smell great, but fish is very good for you. Fatty fish is great for burning fat, and just as good for increasing focus! Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fish like salmon, trout and sardines are excellent for brain health. They boost cognitive function, aiding in memory retention and are thus great for blokes who have to use the old grey matter at work.

Avocados

Avocados are rich in vitamins C, E and K, which all contribute to protecting the brain from oxidative stress, improving memory and focus. Next time you’re looking for a brainy breakfast, channel your inner millennial and order smashed avo on toast. It really is the ideal breakfast for those wishing to stay focused during the workday.

Tea and Coffee

This one probably doesn’t come as a surprise! We all know caffeine is a stimulant which leads to benefits like enhanced alertness. The amount of caffeine in tea or coffee varies depending on the origin, type and how it's been prepared.

Interestingly, tea leaves contain around 3.5% of caffeine, while coffee beans typically have 1.1-2.2%, but since the coffee brewing process uses hotter water, it extracts more of the caffeine from the beans. We typically use more coffee beans than tea leaves for a standard drink too, so that’s why coffee is the go-to for the mornings.

Wholegrains

Not only are they perfect for keeping you fuller for longer, wholegrains like oats, quinoa and brown rice provide a steady release of energy to the brain, promoting increased focus and concentration. So, if you wanna get brainy, you should probably be more grainy!

Blueberries

Despite being blue, it’s been well established that blueberries are good at boosting your mood (get it?), but did you know they also help us focus? The antioxidants found in blueberries help improve communication between brain cells and thus enhance memory and cognitive function.
