There’s no sugarcoating it, a weight loss journey is not always easy (although The Man Shake makes is as easy as possible). You’ll constantly face new challenges, and it can be difficult to break bad habits.
Even when you reach the end of your journey and find yourself looking and feeling good, you could unknowingly go too far. You don't want to become obsessed with weight loss and go beyond a healthy point. It's important to know when you've hit your ideal weight.
Recognising The Signs
Determining your ideal weight goes well beyond the numbers on your bathroom scales. Weight alone is not always an indication of health. Ultimately, your ideal weight is what leaves you feeling good physically, mentally and emotionally.
Health Improvements: Get an overall picture of your health. Get a blood test, and check your blood pressure, cholesterol levels and blood sugar levels. You can also check your BMI, but make sure to measure your waist circumference too, otherwise you won’t get an accurate number.
Mood and Emotional Wellbeing: Ask yourself, how are you feeling? Do you think you look good? Are you fitting into old clothes? The way you feel about yourself is a significant factor of any health journey. If you've lost too much weight, you're probably going to end up feeling fatigued, sluggish and irritable.
Fitness Levels: Assess your physical fitness and functional abilities. Being able to perform daily tasks and engaging in physical activity without discomfort will indicate that you're in tip-top shape. Try walking up a steep set of stairs and see how you feel. If you’re not out a breath, it’s probably a good sign.
Mental Health Matters
The best way to start a weight loss journey is to enter with a positive mindset. Your goal shouldn’t be to become skinny, it should be to become healthy. Health is not solely determined by numbers on a set of scales. Your mental health and emotional well-being are just as important as achieving your physical goals.
Strive for a balanced approach to life that includes foods from all food groups. Likewise, allow occasional indulgence. Listen to your body's hunger and fullness cues and avoid extreme calorie-restricted diets and overexercising. A weight loss journey is also a health and wellness journey, and becoming the best bloke you can be.
